The Android version is in testing now and the iPhone and iPad version will follow. Both will be free, like the desktop program.

Designed for the phone, not squeezed onto it

The phone version is not the desktop window shrunk down. The board takes the full width of the screen, the controls sit under your thumb, and a game starts in three taps.

  • Six strengths: Easy, Not so easy, Medium, Hard, Hardest and Maximum, full strength.
  • Six clocks: 3+2, 5+3, 10+5, 15+10, 30 minutes, or no clock at all.
  • Play as White, Black or at random, or two players on one phone.
  • Hint, Take back, Flip and Resign always one tap away.
  • An evaluation bar that says who is better and by how much, the opening name while you are in the book, and the pieces each side has captured.
  • The wood, blue, marble, ink and custom boards and the eight piece sets of the desktop version.
  • Tap-tap or drag to move, with the squares a piece can reach shown on request.
  • Think on my time is off by default to save battery, and can be switched on for a stronger opponent.

The same strength, offline

The mobile version plays exactly like the desktop program, with the same neural network and the same endgame tables, built to run natively on phones. Nothing is computed on a server: it plays in airplane mode, in the metro, and anywhere without a signal.

As on the desktop, there will be no account, and your games will stay on your device.

What will come later

The game review and the chess lessons are desktop-only for now. They will come to the phone once they have been reworked for a small screen.

Want to know when it is out? Send a message and you will get a single email on the day The Baronet reaches Google Play and the App Store.

Meanwhile, on your computer

The desktop version is available now for Windows and macOS, free.
